What is a Cataract
Cataracts are a condition in which the vision in the eye that was originally clear becomes blurred. Cataracts make the sufferer's vision blurry, like being blocked by fog or dust. Cataracts do not cause pain but cause the sufferer's natural lens to shrink and become cloudy, making it difficult to see clearly. If left for a long time, cataracts can cause blindness.
Cataract Symptoms
Some signs and symptoms of cataracts include:
- Blurred vision like fog.
- Seeing circles around lights.
- Double view.
- Decreased vision at night.
- Glare when looking at car headlights, the sun, or lights.
- Frequently change the size of glasses.
- The colors around look faded.
Cataract causes
Aging is the most common cause of cataract cases. This is due to the aging process or trauma, which causes changes in the eye tissue. The lens of the eye is mostly made up of water and protein. With age, the lens becomes thicker and less flexible. This causes protein clumps and reduces the amount of light reaching the retina, a light-sensitive layer located at the back of the eye, which in turn causes blurry and unsharp vision. Lens changes begin as a mild yellow-brown color but get worse with time.
Apart from being caused by old age, cataracts can also be caused by other conditions, such as:
- Have a parent, brother, sister, or other family members with cataracts
- Have certain medical problems, such as diabetes
- Have you had an eye injury, eye surgery, or been exposed to radiation
- Spending a lot of time in the sun without sunglasses that protect the eyes from UV rays
- Certain drugs, such as corticosteroids, can cause the early formation of cataracts.
Cataract Treatment Prevention
Several efforts can be made to prevent cataracts, including:
- Get your eyes checked regularly by an ophthalmologist.
- Protect your eyes from impacts and prolonged sunlight by using glasses that protect against ultraviolet rays, both UVA and UVB.
- Maintaining blood sugar levels to remain normal in people with diabetes.
- Limiting the habit of driving at night.
- Improve lighting at home.
- Use a magnifying glass while reading.
Juice for Cataracts
Surgery is recommended when cataracts have hindered your daily activities like reading, driving, etc. Surgery is also performed when cataracts interfere with treating other eye problems. Even though at first you may be asked to use glasses, if glasses can't help, a surgical procedure will be an option.
Cataract surgery procedure is known as phacoemulsification. This method of operation is also often referred to as phaco or ultrasonic. This surgery involves making a small incision in the eye and breaking the lens using ultrasonic waves. After removing the lens, the doctor will implant an intraocular lens (IOL). In most modern cataract surgeries, the intraocular lens is able to allow the patient to regain clear vision without the aid of postoperative glasses.
However, according to dr. Zaidul Akbar, cataracts can be overcome by changing lifestyle and regularly drinking rhizomes, including making the following juice:
Ingredient:
- 1-2 carrots
- One lemon (water)
- Green apple (poor apple)

How to make
- Juicer/blender all ingredients until smooth, then strain
- Regular consumption two times a day, namely before breakfast and 3 hours before going to bed at night)
